Pagbibigay Dangal: A Heroes’ Welcome Celebration for the Philippines’ Paris 2024 Olympians

The Office of the President (OP) proudly honors the Filipino athletes in the Paris 2024 Olympics with a grand celebration titled ‘Pagbibigay Dangal: A Heroes’ Welcome Celebration for the Philippines’ Paris 2024 Olympians,’ featuring a 7.7-kilometer parade that begins at Aliw Theater in Pasay City and culminates at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in the City of Manila on August 14, 2024.
Featuring 17 athletes, the parade is set to pass by Roxas Boulevard and Padre Burgos Avenue en route to Taft Avenue, then continue to President Quirino Avenue before concluding at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, which serves as the venue for the viewing party showcasing live performances from various artists.
During the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Philippines sent 22 athletes to compete in nine (9) sports, where they earned two (2) gold medals and two (2) bronze medals, securing the country’s 37th place in the medal tally.
Yesterday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. hosted a welcome reception honoring the 22 athletes in a ceremony at the Malacañan Palace, where he awarded a total of PhP50 million cash, a Presidential Medal of Merit and Presidential Citations.
Carlos Yulo, who won two Olympic gold medals, received PhP20 million and a Presidential Medal of Merit. Bronze medalists Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio each received PhP2 million while the remaining Olympians received PhP1 million each. The coaches of the Olympians were also awarded with PhP500,000 each. These are in addition to the financial incentives given to Olympic medalists under the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act.
