ގާނޫނުއަސާސީގައި މޯލްޑިވްސް ރައްޔިތުންގެ ހައްގުތަކާއި ވާޖިބުތައް ބަޔާންކޮށް، މޯލްޑިވްސް ސަރުކާރުގެ އޮނިގަނޑު ކަނޑައަޅާފައިވެ އެވެ. މިހާރުގެ ގާނޫނުއަސާސީ ރައީސް މައުމޫން އަބްދުލްގައްޔޫމް 7 އޮގަސްޓް 2008 ގައި ތަސްދީގު ކުރައްވައި، ވަގުތުން އަމަލުކުރަން ފެށީ، 1998 ވަނަ އަހަރުގެ ގާނޫނު އަސާސީގެ ބަދަލުގައި އުވާލުމުންނެވެ.
